Braga studied piano and composition in Naples where he graduated with a thesis on the music and musicians at the Italian courts during the Renaissance. From 1954, at the age of 25, till 1959 he lived in Paris where he translated Italian works into French. He then moved on to live in San Francisco, Haiti and San Domingo. Some 30 years later he would write 2 operas about the saints of the 2 cities. In 1966, at the age of 37, he was named artistic director of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma where he, among other things, revised and wrote down the score of Alzira by Giuseppe Verdi. Next to his artistic work he taught music at various and was a music critic for several Italian newspapers. He died at the age of 80.
